Warp Plus Family

Firewall - SmallerPIKA Technologies is one of the few BroadSoft® partners to offer CPE hardware solutions to complement BroadWorks®. WARP Plus is an ideal solution for hosted PBX service providers who face challenges to offer common functions that come standard with most on-premise PBX systems.

Based on the PIKA WARP and µWARP Appliances, the WARP Plus family supports Paging and Local Music on Hold individually or simultaneously, both compatible with the Device Manager from BroadWorks. A web-based configuration GUI greatly eases installation and deployment.

On-Premise Paging provides an effective paging function and has been identified as a “must have” feature to
convert SMB customers from traditional PBX’s to cloud-based hosted PBX solutions. Once installed at the customer premise, zone-paging and all-page announcements are redirected through the WARP Plus to the speakers of each IP phone in the page group. The WARP Plus effectively offloads the unusual WAN bandwidth spikes associated with paging to the LAN network. Tje device lessens the number of ports required on the edge device, while providing the local paging function that users of traditional legacy PBX systems are familiar with. Overhead speaker systems can also be driven without additional hardware and cost by using the line-out audio port or the on-board FXS port.

Music on Hold (MOH) provides a very convenient way for customers to connect their own music on hold source
(iPod, radio, cd player etc.) through a 3.5mm connector on the WARP at the customer premise. Customers can
now easily play customized audio content when placing callers on hold. In comparison to an ATA, installation is
simplified and reliability is greatly enhanced.

Benefits

  • Reduced costs: Paging function (Page-All and Zone Paging) is performed at the customer premise within
the LAN versus having multiple RTP (media) streams across the WAN from the host to the customer
premise. There is no longer a need to provision expensive WAN bandwidth for paging spikes. Trunk and
license mitigation: the paging function no longer requires provisioning additional trunks, ports on edge
device, or expensive licenses (Premium Enterprise). Set up your SIP trunk capacity to accommodate ONLY
    the maximum simultaneous voice calls.
  • Simple and rapid installation
  • Eliminates sales obstacles – Paging can now be confidently offered as a standard hosted function to
customers currently using Legacy PBX’s with on-premise paging. Service providers do not have to absorb
additional hardware and bandwidth provisioning costs in order to support zone paging from the hosted
    PBX.

WARP Pager

  • Has the capacity to page to a maximum of 40 simultaneous endpoints
  • Direct connect to external (overhead) paging system: integrated 3.5mm line-out audio port or FXS port

µWARP MOH (Music On Hold)

PIKA Technologies is one of the few BroadSoft® partners to offer CPE hardware solutions to complement BroadWorks®. µWARP MOH provides customizable MOH function that come standard with most on-premise PBX systems and is compatible with the Device Manager from BroadWorks®. A web-based configuration GUI greatly simplifies installation and deployment.

In regular operation with Broadsoft, when a caller is placed on hold, the system starts playing the audio file(s) from the beginning. Because of this, the callers are hearing the same content every times they are placed on hold.

µWARP MOH provides a very convenient way for customers to easily play customized audio content when placing callers on hold. The callers are simply tuned-in to randomized Audio file(s) or an audio stream that is currently played by the device.  In comparison to an ATA or software running on a server, installation is simplified and reliability is greatly enhanced. You can manage your playlist from a variety of DRM-free internet radios or files located on a USB Flash drive.

µWARP Pager

PIKA Technologies is one of the few BroadSoft® partners to offer CPE hardware solutions to complement BroadWorks®. μWARP Pager provides single and multi zone paging functionality that comes standard with most on-premise PBX systems and is compatible with the Device Manager from BroadWorks®. A web-based configuration GUI greatly simplifies installation and deployment.

On-Premise Paging provides an effective paging function and has been identified as a “must have” feature to convert SMB customers from traditional PBX’s to cloud-based hosted PBX solutions. Once installed at the customer, zone-paging and all-page announcements are redirected through the μWARP Pager to the speakers of each IP phone in the multicast page group.

Paging function (Page-All and Zone Paging) is performed at the customer premise within the LAN versus having multiple RTP (media) streams across the WAN from the host to the customer premise. There is no longer a need to provision expensive WAN bandwidth for paging spikes. The paging function no longer requires provisioning additional trunks, ports on edge device, or expensive licenses  (Premium Enterprise). Set up your SIP trunk capacity to accommodate ONLY the maximum simultaneous voice calls.

The μWARP Pager uses multicast technology to provide the paging functionality. With Multicast paging, a single RTP stream is send to the Multicast address and all clients (phones) that “subscribed” to that address will receive the same RTP stream without any overhead and duplication. This will  dramatically reduce bandwidth on both LAN and WAN by the factor of n-1 (n being a number of endpoints to be paged).

You can envision that the speaker and listeners are in the same room and when speaker says something, every listener in that room is able to hear it so there is no need for speaker to repeat every word to each listener again and again. You can find an illustration of the difference between Broadcast and Multicast Methods below.broadcast audio

μWarp Pager Communications

The stream path for initiator is shown with red arrows. As you can see from the diagram, when initiator starts a page call, the call is forwarded to μWARP pager by Broadworks®. Then μWARP pager sends the received RTP to the multicast paging address. This traffic is shown with green arrow. All of the packets will be received by the devices connected to the network but will only be processed by the devices configured to listen that specific multicast address. In this case these are Listener A and Listener B.

The μWARP Pager effectively offloads the unusual WAN bandwidth spikes associated with paging to the LAN network while providing the local paging function that users of traditional legacy PBX systems are familiar with.
