Organizations urged to take the same security precautions with VoIP services as they do with data services
PIKA Technologies, a market leader in the development of open source platforms for telephony networks announced today the release of the PIKA µFirewall 2.0 with cloud management support.
Global deployments of the first release of µFirewall from PIKA have successfully identified and prevented premise-based IP-PBX security breaches saving carriers and other service providers around the world from toll fraud, denial of service (DoS) attacks and tens of thousands of fraudulent access attempts. On the heels of this success, PIKA Technologies announces the release of the PIKA µFirewall 2.0 with cloud management support for VoIP networks. Cloud management further simplifies support for blacklists, access to hack attempts in real time, email notifications, and remote configuration changes, just to name a few. “With the implementation of SIP services, service providers and resellers can’t afford to overlook the security risks inherent with voice networks,” says PIKA CEO Peter Karneef. “Malicious attacks are growing in number on a daily basis, and are costing businesses thousands of dollars in surprise long distance bills, and are affecting their service due to denial of service attacks.”
Adoption rates of VoIP are increasing as more companies look to reduce the costs and complexities of deploying premise-based IP-PBXs. “There are tremendous benefits to VoIP service,” says PIKA CTO Wojciech Tryc. “However, VoIP service providers now hold an increased concentration of client voice and data information that leads to added security risks. With the PIKA µFirewall 2.0 operators receive the same level of VoIP security they are accustomed to finding with our market leading µFirewall solution, only now, it can be managed from the cloud.”
The PIKA µFirewall identifies and prevents toll fraud on a premise-based IP-PBX before it happens. The µFirewall analyses SIP packets through “deep packet” inspection at ‘wire speed’, preventing SIP DoS attacks and stops abnormal SIP protocol usage based on pre-determined parameters. Now, in addition to these features, the µFirewall release 2.0 is able to deliver cloud management support for private, public and hybrid locations. What’s more the µFirewall 2.0 also provides value added resellers with an ability to offer their own ‘cloud management as-a-service’ to their clients under a white-labeled program from PIKA Technologies. “We are very excited to offer the µFirewall as a cloud management solution to our resellers,” says Jason Beckett, Director of Sales and Marketing at Vital Communications, Inc. “We are seeing great demand for the µFirewall because of its ability to monitor and prevent malicious hacking attempts. With this release, PIKA has added the convenience of centralized management of unlimited sites without having to roll a truck.”
Interested parties are encouraged to learn more about this latest release from PIKA Technologies and the opportunities for white-labeling programs by attending a webinar scheduled for Thursday, February 26th at 11:00 a.m. Eastern.
